  • Symantec  NetBackup is an enterprise level heterogeneous backup and recovery suite. It provides cross-platform backup functionality to a large variety of Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems.

So yes is can backup and restore a complete OS, the majority of platforms are fully supported, as marianne stated please check the compatibility matrix for your platform support.

  • I guess you meant Bare metal recovery support. Yes indeed NBU being one of enterprise giant suite it does supports this feature that too amongst heterogeneous era.

  • Doug/Marianne,

thanks for your posts. I have a centos 5.5 OS and an application on top of it with logs for the application. Is there a way i can only backup the OS with all latest updates (firewall) etc and leave the applications and logs out of backup process? Please advise.

    thanks

    Kishore

Yes. You can either specify specific folders/filesystems to be backed up or ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES with exclude_list on the client to exclude folders/filesystems containing application and logs.

If your biggest concern is OS, best to use BMR to backup client.

Normal filesystem backups are covered in NBU Admin Guide I.
BMR in the BMR Admin Guide.
