Netbackup 6.5.6 - Windows - vxlogcfg Error

Our vxlogs have gone mad and create about 1gb every minute.

When i run the vxlogcfg command to turn it off i get:

vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o Default -s DebugLevel=0 -s DiagnosticLevel=0

V-1-6 Unable to load configuration settings.

V-1-8-0  DUMMY TEXT, DO NOT LOCALIZE

Anyone seen this before?

    I have just found a script on the server from 2008 which created windows sym links!

    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\Volmgr"   "D:\VERITAS\Volmgr"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\Patch"   "D:\VERITAS\Patch"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\output"    "D:\VERITAS\output"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\NetBackupDB"  "D:\VERITAS\NetBackupDB"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\NetBackup"   "D:\VERITAS\NetBackup"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\nbsupport"   "D:\VERITAS\nbsupport"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\msg"    "D:\VERITAS\msg"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\Help"    "D:\VERITAS\Help"
    linkd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\bin"    "D:\VERITAS\bin" 

    I have no idea who did this and why, but it could be the cause of most of my issues!

    GENERAL ERROR: Getting the error "V-1-6 Unable to load configuration settings." when running vxlogcfg -l to view settings.

    Not aimed at your specific environment but it does state:

    "...
    This issue was reported on a HP-UX 11.11 system running NetBackup 6.0 Maintenance Pack 4.  This issue is not specific to either the operating system or NetBackup version and could occur on other platforms
    ..."

    Also check for possible corrupt nblog.conf  (/usr/openv/netbackup/nblog.conf).

    Compare nblog.conf with nblog.conf.template in /usr/openv/netbackup. If in doubt, rename nblog.conf and copy nblog.conf.template to nblog.conf. Then retry vxlogcfg.

    Thanks Andy, that one doesn’t really apply...... 

    Marianne I don’t have nblog.conf.template in my windows server. Does anybody have a windows copy?

    I replaced nblog.conf with a copy from my other master server. When I get a chance I will stop and stat the services.

    However....

    On my other master server vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o Default -s DebugLevel=0 -s DiagnosticLevel=0 runs fine but the file still contains:

    Default.DiagnosticLevel=6

    Default.DebugLevel=1

    Although this is windows, so probably won’t change until a service restart.

    Maybe you cannot set it to 0

    see how the debuglevel went to 1 even though you requested 0

    So try setting it to 1.

    I went though the same thing as the upgrade put that nblog.conf file out there at 6 and 6.

    Ate up my disk space fast.

    I set both to 1 and it worked.

    You did not mention Master Server OS? Silly thing that still catches me on W2008:

    Did you open cmd with right-click, Run As Administrator?

    Cant set to level 1 either:

    Well server rebooted (with the nblog.conf copied from a working master)

    Still get:

    vxlogcfg -a -p 51216 -o Default -s DebugLevel=1 -s DiagnosticLevel=1
    V-1-6 Unable to load configuration settings.
    V-1-8-0  DUMMY TEXT, DO NOT LOCALIZE

    I have also found this TN that is applicable to 64-bit servers:

    It explains a different problem, but with the same error message. The workaround is to run command from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VERITAS\VRTSicsco directory instead.

     

    Maybe time to open a support call with Symantec?

    I have personally used -s DebugLevel=0 -s DiagnosticLevel=0 on different versions of NBU...

    Still getting the error even from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VERITAS\VRTSicsco  directory. 

    V-1-6 Unable to load configuration settings.

    I just ran the vxlogcfg -l command and Netbackup isn’t listed at all:

    List of the all configured products...
    50936
    52410 (AV ??)

    I have logged a call for this, the response hasn’t been fantastic!

    I miss the good old days of 5.1 :)
