Netbackup 7.5.0.6 for Hyper-v 2012 .vhd is missing when restoring

Hi Guys,

 

We just migrated our Hyper-v virtual machines from 2008 to 2012. I successfully backup the virtual machine, but when i tried to restore the virtual machine I noticed that .vhd is missing and only .xml file is their. Please see attached file for the screenshots.

 

Is this a bug on Netbackup 7.5.0.6 Hyper-v 2012?

    Correct. Your opening post mentioned .vhd, not .vhdx.

    As per Release Notes:

    ■ The following is a list of limitations on NetBackup support for Windows 2012 Hyper-V:
    ■ Backup and restore of the Resilient File System (ReFS) is not supported.
    ■ Block-level incremental backup is not supported.
    ■ File-level recovery from a Hyper-V backup is not supported when:
    ■ The file originates from a Resilient File System (ReFS) volume, or
    ■ The virtual machine is composed of VHDX file(s).
    File-level recovery continues to be supported when the file originates from
    an NTFS volume and the virtual machine is composed of VHD files(s).

    Seems Hyper-V 2012 is not yet supported.

    NetBackup for Hyper-V Compatibility lists Windows Server 2008,Windows Server 2008 R2.

    According to this blog it is supposed to be supported with NBU 7.5.0.6:

    If you are using the correct NBU 7.5.0.6 W2012 binaries (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204661), probably best to log a Support call.

    backups without that limitation. Consequently, the CSV timeout setting in
    the NetBackup Hyper-V policy is only used in Hyper-V Server 2008 R2
    deployments.

    Hi Marianne,

     

    I think our Hyper-v 2012 (Windows server 2012 DataCenter) is supported but with limitations. We noticed that when we backup virtual machine with .vhdx disk the backup is successful and .vhdx appears in the BAR GUI (Please see attached file). The only problem with this is we can't restore file-level recovery.

    Thanks Marianne! We will just convert our virtual machines with .vhd disk to .vhdx.

    Hi Marianne,

     

    Symantec support just gave me Emergency Engineering Binary (EEB) for Hyper-v host. This is a known issue on NBU 7.6 for Hyper-v 2012.

    If anyone encounters this issue. Please call Symantec Support for EEB.
