Netbackup 7.5.0.7 for WIndows 2012 x64

I have downloaded both the x86 & x64 to go from 7.5.0.x to 7.5.0.7.

I don't know what to download to be able to update our WIndows 2012 x64 servers. I know that when I have to install Netbackup on our WIndows 2012 server, I had to download a specific file for this.

  • For NetBackup Servers (Media/Master/etc.), support for WIndows Server 2012 starts with 7.6, so you can't use 7.5.0.7 on a NetBackup server.

For clients, though, 7.5.0.7 is supported.  The http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH209032 link indicates it is for both NBU servers and clients.  However, I would ASSUME you need to install the 7.5.0.6 client FIRST from http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204661, as 7.5.0.7 requires a 7.5.x version to be installed, but the base 7.5 doesn't support Win Server 2012.

  • Thanks for the info.

I should also be able to install 7.5.0.7  on our current Master/Media server which is running on Server 2008 R2 Standard with 7.5.0.6 curently installed. Correct??  Thank for you input.

  • My Master/Media server is Server 2008 R2 Standard with 7.5.0.6 currently installed. With that said, I should be able to install 7.5.0.7 on this server. Correct?

Also, from what you say, I can install 7.5.0.7 on any Server 2012 EXCEPT the Master/Media server ( which I don;t have).

They sure try and make things confusing sometimes.

    Thanks

  • I think you are focusing on the "server" term for both your Netbackup servers and the clients you want to back up.  In most contexts on this board, a SERVER, or NetBackup server, would be either a NetBackup master server or media server.  The servers you want to back up would be the CLIENTS, not normally referred to as servers on this board.

Yes, you can install 7.0 or higher on your Windows Server 2008 R2 master/media server.

You can install 7.5.0.6 or higher on any Windows Server 2012 clients.

  • Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 are supported as clients from 7.5.0.6 (as Nicolai says above).  Clients can be at 7.5.0.7 if you install the 7.5.0.7 base and apply the 7.5.0.7 maintenance patch on top that.

Windows Server 2012 is supported as a master or media server from 7.6 (as Ron says above, a couple times).  You would need to head to FileConnect to get 7.6 GA (7.6.0.1).

Windows Server 2012 R2 is supported as a master or media server from 7.6.0.3.  A separate full install just for Win2012R2 is available via TECH217834.

All this is covered, hopefully NOT so confusingly, in the O/S CL:

NetBackup 7.x Operating System Compatibility List

  • Ron,

    My apologies.

Yes, I was mis speaking about the word 'server'

    Re-phrased:

    - Master/media server can be upgraded from current 7.5.0.6 to 7.5.0.7 ??

    - clients ( PC's and client Server's ) running 7.5.0.3 or 7.0.5.6 can be upgraded to 7.5.0.7 ??

    Just a straight forward upgrade?

    Thanks, Neil

  • yes since it's installation of netbackup patch on a windows machine it is very straight forward.. just initiate the setup and follow the instructions by clicking on the "Next" button to proceed.. The setup will automatically stop all the Netbackup services if they are running during the installation and then start them again once the installation is completed. But for the master server I will definitely recommend taking a FULL catalog backup before you proceed with the patch upgrade..
