NetBackup 8.1.2 moving away from tape and SLP?

Is netbackup moving away from supporting tape drives and SLP?

I Installed 8.1.2, went to try to create a "protection plan" on the web ui, no access to tape, or SLP, only disk storage.

  • update - the created test plan DID create an SLP, cleverly named:

    SLO_TUUID_80098ee2-f1bd-4b87-9775-cab7a799a974_Backup_Duplication_d00a59d7-0566-4853-ab40-a2529de2aff9, with a priority of 0.

So it is clear to you just what it is. this is my Protection plan called "TESTPLAN" that does daily and monthly backups.

I was able to update the SLP, so it now goes to tape for long term storage, but the storage in the WEB gui retains the initial disk only storage.

  • Friend over the web is still very limited, try for the java console. Currently I use in an environment with Netbackup 8.1.2 and DD 9800 duplicating to a TL Mll M3 and it works perfectly.

agreed, but weird that there is no access, and they have stated:

We are looking to bring in the majority of common use case functionality into the Web UI in the N-release. That includes policy management, storage management, activity monitoring, and many others.

We continue to invest in more support for workloads with our simplified protection paradigm, allowing delegation using role-based access control. The Java GUI will not receive any new functionality but will not be deprecated until all capabilities have been moved into the web UI. We are investing heavily in this initiative over the next few releases.

Yep, the 8.1.2 web GUI is not feature-complete yet as they say. Ought to be more features implemented in v8.2 (haven't loaded it yet to check), I'd expect it to be several more versions along before everything that's going to be is implemented.
