netbackup catalog recovery

Hi All,

i run NBU 6.5.1 on windows 2003 server. when configuring the catalog backup policy, i configured 5 servers as critical servers. when i now tried to restore the catalog to our disaster recovery server with the same configuration and name, i got an error requesting for the media that contains the backup of the 5 critical servers.  i want to know if during the process of catalog recovery, do i really need the media that contains the critical backups apart from the media that contains the catalog.

please i need urgent responses

thanks.

A policy that is listed on the Critical Policies list is considered crucial to the recovery of a site in the event of a disaster. The NetBackup Disaster Recovery report lists all of the media that is used for backups of critical policies, including the most recent full backup. The NetBackup Disaster Recovery wizard warns you if any media for critical policies are not available.

    Note:
Critical policies should use only incremental or full backup schedules. The Disaster Recovery report lists only the media for incremental and full backup schedules.

Note: When NetBackup is running with Vault, Vault includes the disaster recovery data in the Vault Recovery Report

So, from the sentence "NetBackup Disaster Recovery wizard warns you if any media for critical policies are not available", is it a warning you are getting or an error thus stopping you from continuing the recovery process?

Those "critical" backups would be used in the event of a disaster, as per the quote: "A policy that is listed on the Critical Policies list is considered crucial to the recovery of a site in the event of a disaster", for the recovery of those critical servers.

  • it is an error because it was requesting for tapes that contains the backup of the listed critical servers.
  • Hi,

It is necessary that the media contains backups of those critical clients to recovery.

  • the "NEXT" button is graded out which means that i cant proceed.
  • OK. I'm out of ideas, found no info on the matter.
I would try to peek inside the little Disaster Recovery files and see if I can find some references to the critical policies that can be deleted.

  • Its telling you that you'll also need media xxx-yyy to recover your servers data, its not telling you you need those to recover the catalog.
Ive done numerous catalog recoveries in disaster recovery tests and the only media you need are those for the catalog itself.

So there must be something else amiss...or theres a bug in the software. Have you looked in the log for this process?

My experience is with Solaris but I'd be surprised if it were any different at this level.
