NetBackup client running Red Hat does not support client-side deduplication

Hi,

We have a Linux server that is in a remote office and its policy is configured to back up to a deduplication disk storage unit. At first, the deduplication location was configured to always use media server but, the backup job was running very slowly. We decided to change to always use client-side and start it again.

The backup job failed, it seems does not support client-side deduplication:

The NetBackup envinronment is the following:

  • Master and media server: Solaris 10 Sparc, NetBackup 7.5.0.1
  • Linux client: Red Hat Enterprise Server 5.4 (Tikanga 2.6), NetBackup 7.5

I already checked the Deduplication Supported Operating Systems list and it seems to be supported. I really aprecciate your comemnts.

Thanks.

  • Is the client at exactly the same NBU version as the Storage Server (Master / Media) as this could have an affect for client side de-dupe

Also check the pd.conf and ost-plugins directory to make sure everything is right on the client

  •

The problem was solved after disable the firewall on the server. Now we just have to enable the required ports to be able to backup (with client-side dedup) when the firewall is on.

In one of the technotes shared by Marianne, I found this ports list:

    10102: The NetBackup Deduplication Manager(spad).
    10082: The NetBackup Deduplication Engine(spoold).
    1556:The Symantec Private Branch Exchange.

Do you know of any other ports that must be enabled in the firewall?

    regards!

  • Those should be the only ones you need between media server and client.
