Netbackup compatibility for oracle Linux Server release 6.4 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.4 (RHEL)

I have master servers running with versions 7.6.0.1 and 7.5.0.6.If I have a client with Oracle Linux Server release 6.4 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.4 (RHEL) which version the netbackup client should be compatible with ? I have checked the compatibilty link (nbu_7x_scl.pdf) but I could not find a proper solution.

    Hi,

     

    Both 7.5.0.6 and 7.6.0.1 will support the client. The updates, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 etc are only relevant for BMR support. For 6.4 you should go with 7.6.0.1.

    Hi,

     

    Both 7.5.0.6 and 7.6.0.1 will support the client. The updates, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 etc are only relevant for BMR support. For 6.4 you should go with 7.6.0.1.

    You can install NetBackup 7.5.0.5 or later version on these clients.

    Thanks All. Thank you Rian for the above version lists.I have linux/redhat 6.4 client so I should go with 7.6.0.1 right ?

    Please download the OS SCL : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648  
    and look at the headings and notes for each OS family.

    e.g. 

    Red Hat Enterprise Linux
    NetBackup is supported on all editions (Advanced, Base, DC, etc.) and on all vendor GA updates (n.1, n.2, etc.) or service packs (SP1, SP2, etc.) unless stated
    otherwise in the tables below.

    Then look at the notes next to each OS version.
    For example the [1] in the BMR column for RHEL 6.

    The footnote says the following:

    1. BMR Client/Boot Server support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 begins with NetBackup 7.5. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 GA and Update 1 are supported. Updates 2 and 3 are supported and require NetBackup 7.5.0.5 or later. Update 4 is supported and requires NetBackup 7.6 or later. Update 5 is supported and requires NetBackup 7.6.0.3 and later.

     

    So - this is only relevant if you need BMR backup for these clients.

    One doubt I have here is what is meant by Updates 2 and 3 ,4, 5  as in the below line ?

    I have gone through the section Red Hat Enterprise Linux - NetBackup Client in the document you mentioned and as per the pdf netbackup minimum netbackup level is 7.0. My client CPU architecture is x64. And it looks fine .But the footnote says as below: in which few notes are very confusing which I highlighted in bold.

     

     

    1. BMR Client/Boot Server support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 begins with NetBackup 7.5. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 GA and Update 1 are supported. Updates 2 and 3 are supported and require NetBackup 7.5.0.5 or later. Update 4 is supported and requires NetBackup 7.6 or later. Update 5 is supported and requires NetBackup 7.6.0.3 and later.

    2. SAN Client support began in NetBackup 7.5.
    3. NetBackup 7.6 and later does not support this Operating System on this CPU Architecture.
    4. This Operating System on this CPU Architecture is not supported at the next major release following NetBackup 7.x.
    7. NetBackup 7.5 and later does not support this Operating System on this CPU Architecture.
