Netbackup DR standby server

Hello Geeks !

Hope you doing well !

I am looking for a DR solution for our new NBU environment.

First let me explain what I am looking for and what I think for this

1) We will be building a primary netbackup server with 3 media server at same site and a DR master server and 3 media servers at remote site.

2) Planning to build primary server with alias say xyz and will map this to secondary when installing netbackup on it.

3) if i go copy book style ,i need to link all the below directories to the replicated volume

 /usr/openv/netbackup/db
 /usr/openv/db/data
 /usr/openv/netbackup/vault/sessions
 /usr/openv/volmgr/database
 /usr/openv/var
 /usr/openv/kms

say replicated volume /drvol and will create soft links.

/drvol would be from VMAX and be replicated to another volume say remotevol remote site using recover point.

and in case of disaster i will mount remotevol on same mount on which drvol is mounted on primary.

Now what i need to know as these steps needs linking and soft links are never recommended as they could be easily removed ..delibrately or mistakenly.

Do we have any other approach than this.

if i take below directories from SAN

 /usr/openv/netbackup/db
 /usr/openv/db/data
 /usr/openv/netbackup/vault/sessions
 /usr/openv/volmgr/database
 /usr/openv/var
 /usr/openv/kms

and replicate all to the remote site. but guess in this case i have to mount these all to the secondary site in case of disaster rather than just mounting one drvol in former one.

Please suggest the best approach and please share if we have any good document on this.

Thank you

  • I need to go with standy DR only as canoot make any more chages or bring in new things now.

Would the catalog backup will take all the data using softlink.

as /usr/openv/netbackup/db would be pointing to /drvol/openv/netbackup/db

     /usr/openv/netbackup/db >>/drvol/openv/netbackup/db

    Like wise other directories.

also when i create a link should i remove db directory after moving all data to /drvol/openv/netbackup/db

  • SFHA/DR is software from symantec that will allow you to cluster your master server between prod and dr. You can use symantec replication or 3rd party hardware replication. Look for storage foundation / cluster om symantec product pages.

  • Just take the catalog backup across and recover it to the DR server.

Generally speaking, trying to copy dirs across doesn't work, and more to the point, is unsupported.

  • TECH345977  -this is what i am following - symantec document

  • Installing, configuring and operating a non-clustered master server with catalog replication

  • anybody has done that before ?

    a standby master server

    OS -Solaris 10

    Netbackup 7.6.0.1
