NetBackup: How to add CIFS share as storage?

Hi

Task: I want to perform backup with NetBackup to CIFS share on a server.

Question: How to add CIFS share as storage in NetBackup?

  • Add the path in Basic Disk Storage Unit as UNC path.

Next, change logon service for these 2 NBU services to a Domain user with full rights to the share:

    • NetBackup Client Service

    • NetBackup Remote Manager and Monitor Service

    See http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO34525

  • To add to what Marianne said.

If you want to use that storage unit in an SLP (storage life cycle policy) then use an advanced disk, not basic storage unit.

    Same rules for service/credentials apply.

  • Thank you, Marianne and Riaan.
When I will try this - I will report whether it was succesful.

  • If you run this command :

    nbdevconfig -createdv -stype AdvancedDisk -storage_server <storage server> -dv <share_1>

Where <share1> is the name of the CIFs share as visible to the media server (I presume the storage serevr is created already, lets us know if it is not).

Then when you run the disk pool wizrad, the share should be vuisbile in the list of 'disks'.
