NetBackup import tape data from an older version to a newer version.

Good Day,

1, I have a requirement to import some tapes (LTO7) that were backed up by the old master server, Operating System WIN server 2016, Version 9.1.0.1 to a newly installed master version 10.2 which is on OS WIN server 2022.

2, Also like to know if I can import the Catalog tape via the catalog recovery wizard where I can select "Recover only Catalog". If this method can create a header and image properly that can save lots of effort. Not sure this method has any implications.

Please above two methods are supported.

  • The catalog recover wizard is not for importing tapes, this would actually recover the complete NBU catalog - do not do this.

To import tapes, presuming they are visible to NetBackup (IE in the library and inventory has been run), you just run phase 1 & 2 import.

Phase 1 is pretty quick as it just ships through reading the backup headers, phase 2 will take some time as it has to read each image (so potentially several hours per tape depending on how full they are).
