Netbackup is unable to use an appropriate tape even it is active, not full, frozen nor suspended

Hello,

I have an Active tape in a robot, Netbackup is not able to use it (status 96 because when no other tapes are available in the pool). I couldnt find the reason.

The status of the media is 0x2100 (I couldnt find what this code means

E:\Netbackup\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpmedialist -L -m 0193L6
Server Host = BHURESPA2

media_id = 0193L6, partner_id = *NULL*, version = 1
density = hcart3 (20)
allocated = 10/18/2021 21:23:05 (1634602985)
last_written = 11/11/2021 10:09:49 (1636636189)
expiration = N.A (0)
last_read = N.A (0)
kbytes = 3086509393, nimages = 84, vimages = 2
retention_level = 3, num_restores = 0
status = 0x2100, l_offset = 48226924, psize = 0, hsize = 1024, ssize = 0
vmpool = 27
Media on Hold = 0
res1 = 0, res2 = 0, res3 = 0, res4 = 0

On the other hand, other Active tapes for the same pool, that are used without problems with Netbackup have the 0x2000 status, here is an example:

E:\Netbackup\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpmedialist -L -m 0214L6
Server Host = BHURESPA2

media_id = 0214L6, partner_id = *NULL*, version = 1
density = hcart3 (20)
allocated = 11/19/2021 14:13:56 (1637342036)
last_written = 11/19/2021 18:16:24 (1637356584)
expiration = 12/20/2021 11:00:23 (1640008823)
last_read = N.A (0)
kbytes = 774096730, nimages = 8, vimages = 8
retention_level = 3, num_restores = 0
status = 0x2000, l_offset = 12095282, psize = 0, hsize = 1024, ssize = 0
vmpool = 27
Media on Hold = 0
res1 = 0, res2 = 0, res3 = 0, res4 = 0

What the status 0x2100 means?, could be the reason why this tape is not used by NBU?.

Thanks in advance and best regards

  • Hi oolmedo

    The most probably reason is that the retention level for the backup doesn't match that for the backup already on the tape you would like to use (0193L6) - by default NetBackup won't mixed retentions on each tape (this can be overridden but is not generally a good idea).

    Cheers

      Hello Davidmoline,

      Thanks for your reply, you are right, I forgot to check the retention level of the images (recently one of the backup operators changed the retention level for one schedulle that use this pool, so now we have two ret level for the same pool but we have "multiple retention levels for media" not checked).

      Thanks and best regards
