NetBackup MSDP potential space savings if retention reduced
Hi
Is there a command or report within NetBackup that can calculate the potential space saving on an MSDP storage unit if the retention for a set of backup images is reduced. I'm aware of the deduplication element of MSDP needing to retain the data segments until no images reference that segment before it can then be removed and the space reclaimed. So I guess what I'm asking is if there is a tool that could run a "what if..." scenario and could trawl through the MSDP databases to identify the segments that would no longer need to be retained and therefore the potential space savings in the event of a defined set of backup images being deleted.
Hope that make sense :0)
I think there answer is no but thought I'd ask..... :o)
I think that the answer is no, too.
But to add to your question, it would be nice to have a report showing the size of the blocks belonging to a specific client, along with the size of the blocks shared with other clients.
