Netbackup policy configuration

Hi ,

Currently i configured a policy with 4 user backup schedules , one for full backup to tape and one for full backup to disk and also one incremental to tape and one incremental to disk .

i configured these schedules because the netbackup server is 1GE while the Enterprise client is 10GE so i make the tape backup from the master server and the disk backup from the enterprise client to nas storage mounted at the enerprise client .

when i run backup from the client , it choose automatically the first schedule in the list " full backup to tape " and didn't run the other schedule .

the question here how can i run all the schedules automatically when i initiate the backup from the client ?

  • It seems that the schedule cannot be selected or specified in the jbpSA GUI on the client.

    To specify a specific user-type schedule, the user will have to use bpbackup from cmd.

    Not sure what you mean with 'disable a retention period' .

    Retention level/period is a schedule attribite. It can be changed, not disabled.
    A schedule must have a retention level. This is how NBU knows for how long information about the backup will be be kept in the NBU image catalog on the master server.

  • Why user backups? Why not scheduled Full and Incrementals? User backups are only full. No way to config Incr backups as user type. To select a specific schedule, simply specify policy and schedule on the client. If using bpbackup command, use -p to specify policy and -s for schedule name.
  • Hi Marianne ;

    i am using backup and restore GUI " jbpSA" from the client , not from the master server .

    if i use scheduled full backup then from the Netbackup "jnbSA" i can choose the policy and then choose the schedule .

    but how i specufy the schedule from the client ?

    iam not using schedule backup as it's database server and there is no change occur on it , and if changes happen then will take it manully .

    another question , is it possible  to  disable a retention period for specific policy ??
