Netbackup query builder question - VMWare
I am trying to get netbackup to use a query builder in order to backup specific clients in vCenter.
The query is based on a “Field” that is a Virtual machine custom attribute that I created in vCenter.
The problem is that I have created this attribute at the VM level but netbackup is still not able to see that attribute, so it is not listed under “Field” in the query builder.
The reference to the query builder is here, and the field I am talking about is this: [vSphere custom attributes]
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO70964
I went through the admin guide but still can’t figure out how to get netbackup to list those attributes; I am able to perform backups in vCenter but not through the process iam trying to create.
we are running netbackup 7.6.0.1, Windows server 2008R2.
Any help?
Hi,
So you basically want the query to look for some attribute you specify in vcenter (on each vm)?
You can do that by adding an annotation. You make an annotation (e.g. "back me up") on the vmguest, and tell the query to look for it.
Just go back to your guide and look for annotation.
It may be that the NBU server hasn't refreshed its virtual machine list, if you have made the change in vCenter between two rediscovery runs.
If that is the case, you could change the "Reuse VM selection query results for" setting to zero, to force an immediate rediscovery of virtual machines.
Remember to change it back to the previous value though, as this puts a lot of stress on the vCenter servers if you have many virtual machines.
