netbackup Status 71

hi,

let me give a brief summary,

i have been having this error for a while now. Most of my backups finish with this error

"none of the files in the files list exist(71)"

On my network i have two robot library configured on the master server.

One is to be used to store the backup of all the servers with a FULL BACKUP POLICY while the other robot library is to store all the Incremental backups.

but we have just be using just one of the library.

attached to this comment is the output for the STATUS CODE ERROR 71

For status 71 - output of the policy, e.g 'bppllist COLLABORATION_2 -U' and bppllist INFOPOOL_1.

I could not get the output for bpmount, because i could not log into most of the machines with this error today.

  • Do all the paths actually exist on the clients?

i.e. do the clients listed in each policy have the respective paths

      HW/OS/Client: Windows-x64 Windows2003 abp-dc1-um1
                     Windows-x86 Windows2003 abp-dc1-vcentre

      Include: NEW_STREAM
                C:\
                NEW_STREAM
                E:\

                NEW_STREAM
                D:\

Also, are they all local drives?

  • Status 71 is a common error on NBU 7 platform. This could happen because you have ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES in the backup selection and using multi-streaming, and on the actual client you have excluded a drive (e.g. E:) completely. The backup job for the E: drive would end with a status 71, as it didn't find any eligible files/folders to be backed up.

Irritating error, which should not have passed any quality testing... We just have to live with it now.

  •

I had to log on to the clients with this error and found out that some of the drives that were included in the backup selection including the CD-ROM drive are physically no more present on the system.

So i deleted/removed the drives,CD-ROM that were not needed from the backup selection.

That was all, and the error stopped.

    Thx guys.

  • backup selection list no longer existed - per my "First & most obvious" question?

  • In all fairness - Andy provided you with the answer on 17 Dec:

"Do all the paths actually exist on the clients?"
