Netbackup Vault configration

Hi,

We are using Symantic netbackup6.5.6 in ourr envirement for backing up windows and UNIX  machines.

I am newto netbackup.I want to know step by step configuration of vault.

Quick responce would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • Apologies, but v6.5.6 is so out of date - that maybe you might have a hard time finding anyone who is actually able to help.

Vault is complex, and works really well when configured correctly.  It's too complex to descrbe in a short posting on here.

Do you not have the manuals folder on your master/media server with pdf files in it?

If not, have you not searched for the v6.5 documentation/manuals on-line?

Again, apologies that this is not the answer you are looking for.  How can I put this... NetBackup is BIG.  It takes time to learn.  The manuals really are the best place to start.

  • I agree with SDO - the vault manual gives the steps.

Work through he steps in the manual, it is not too difficult to work out a basic config.

    It is easiest if ...

Create a test policy that writes to a test volume pool (eg a vol pool called vault)

Configure vault to only select images from the test policy - leave all other 'image selection criteria alone

Configure vault to select images between 2 days ago and 0 (0 = now)

    Skip duplication

Configure vault to only eject tapes in vol pool 'vault'

Run a test backup of the new policy (only has to backup a single file)

When you run the vault (manyually) it should eject the tape (no need to remove from library, just leave in CAP/ MAP)

    Expire the tape manually

Run the vault profile again (tells vault the tape is expired and can come back)

    Run robot inventory

That (above) is about the most basic vault you can create - once you hve that working, you can try duplication, running a catalog from vault, creating reports etc ...

  • There is an overvire / technical brief for NetBackup v7.6 Vault here:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/netbackup-76-vault-extension-technical-brief

...but I really don't know how different NetBackup Vault v7.6 is from NetBackup Vault v6.5.  It is likely that the linked document above is not relevant.  Sorry.

  • @ankushkaira - seems you are in luck - take a look at the technical brief (linked posted above) for a quick introduction to NetBackup Vault.

  • And - when you do upgrade to v7.6+ then these may help you get a good quick handle on NetBackup:

...especially the doc linked at the end of the first posting.
