newbie question

Hi all...

We are eveluating  netbackup 6.5.4 in a mixed enviroment, master and media server on two windows 2008x64 machines.
A simple question...

Is for a server mandatory to have a (netbackup) client installed to be backupped ?
I mean...i.e. I have to backup some files under some directoryes on some microsoft servers.
With  the "up and running" backup solution actually installed (c.a. brightstor arcserve) , I browse the network, expand the servers, and with the administrative shares I select the  directories and the files I need tobackup. No client at all is used.

Under netbackup when I try to define a new policy and  I add a server (browsing the net) withouth any client installed, I can't see his filesystem.
After all netbackup do not ask me for an administrative user, and his services can run with localsystem account, so I think that without a client I can'tbackup anything.

Am I right ?

    Netbackup client is required to install on machies needs to be backedup. without client u cant establish connection between master/media server and machine need to be backedup.

    In my point of view, It is nessassry to have netbackup client insalled on the destination server. Becuase client establish a communication between Netbackup Master Server and media server. Also it enables a lot's of features for the future prespective, you enable a just license key on the master server and feature is available on the client server. So its a one time installation but got lot's of features.

    I don know why there is some people who don like to have an installed agent,

    with an agente I'm able of BMR (bare metal restore - witch provides me to restore a fill SO image even in a diferente server), backup databases like oracle, mssql etc. ONLINE,


    using network sharing the transfer will be made by nfs,cifs or smb that is not a good idea.

    Let try to forget that Idea that everithing client less is better.
