No Proxy Found Message in Syslog

I'm new to the Symantec forum and Veritas Netbackup as well so I hope I'm providing you with sufficient information about this problem.

We are running Veritas Netbackup 6.0 MP6 on a Sun Solaris 9 server. During the past few days we have noticed the error "No proxy found" being written to the system log (/var/adm/messages). Researching the error, we found Document ID: 280746 which suggests we turn off the LogToOSlog option for PBX logging unless this error message is being issued when PBX or NetBackup is not being restarted. This error message is being written to the our system log every 1-4 minutes (ex. below). We have stopped and restarted NetBackup as well as rebooting the Master Server and we are still receiving the error messages in the system log. We did find a reference in the PBX log entries for a failed "hand_off looking for proxy = NBREM" (ex. below), but we are unable to find any information on NBREM.

Can anyone provide us with some insight as to why are are suddenly receiving this error message. Should we turnoff syslog logging for PBX and ignore this message since we are not having any issues with Netbackup? We have made no recent changes or applied any new patches to the system.

Thanks in advance for your feedback..

  • Thanks Raphael for the information.  I should let you that the "no proxy found" messages suddenly stopped appearing in our system log late Tuesday morning without any changes to the configuration files.  However, we will take your suggestion and turn off the logging to the system log.  From what I understand we can still view PBX log information using the vxlogview if we turn off logging to the system log.
  • Don't mind about that. Every communication NetBackup does it looks if has any proxy configuration set and if hasn't, it logs this message, but just for information.

If you turn on NetBackup logs, like bpcd on Master or even bpbkar on cliets, you will see the same message. It's not a issue, just a check NetBackup does and logs. If you want can turn off Syslog for PBX with no worries about THIS message. The disadvantage is that if you have any other issue with PBX, will not receive logs from them, but PBX issues are very difficult to happen.

    Hope it helps.
