Not able to install Solaris Client 7.1 on Solaris 9

Environment

Solaris 9

NBU Client 7.1

That file can be deleted after you are sure the install was successful.

    According to NB7.x SCL , it has to be a Sparc (x64) for Solaris9 to work.

    If that's already verified, it's possible installation binary maybe corrupted...

    What concerns me about the output is that it seems to try and update client binaries that can be found on a master and/or media server.

    Please verify if client or media server binaries are installed on this Solaris 9 machine.

    Check contents of /usr/openv.

    A client does not have volmgr, var, tmp, etc. sub-directories.

    Also check output of 'pkginfo |grep -i netbackup'

    I will see if I can 'borrow' a Sun server at the office tomorrow to try and install 7.1  client software.

    From your output it seems like the "cp_to_client" script is exiting with non zero status. Can be lot of reasons... like no enuff space

    From the output I can see that your Master server is "VERITAS-NETBKUP" and client on which you trying to install is "SEC-UNIX"

    To get more verbose output please run the below commands and paste the output:

    From the command prompt run the below commands:

    cd /master/NBU/NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS/NBClients/anb/Clients/usr/openv/netbackup/client/Solaris/Solaris9/

    bash -x ./cp_to_client VERITAS-NETBKUP SEC-UNIX /tmp/install.log

    I have consulted with one of my friend who is expert in Unix plarform. He did research on this issue and found that the tar is not able to untar long file names.He found same problem in sun solaris 10 as well

    Problem

    The built-in tar of solaris was not able to untar the long file name from the media which we have downloaded from symantec web

    Resolution

    What he did. He just download latest tar from http://www.sunfreeware.com/  and untar it. 

     

    See the error while untar from built-in tar software of solaris

    tar: ././@LongLink: typeflag 'L' not recognized, converting to regular file

    Hello Marianne.have you tried the below from your suggessted article ?

     

    On Solaris systems, the GNU tar command can be found at /usr/sfw/bin/gtar.

    To check the version of gtar on a Solaris server, run the gtar --version command:
    # /usr/sfw/bin/gtar --version
    tar (GNU tar) 1.14

    i got the answer after running command of version

    All our systems are Solaris 10. So, gtar is installed as part of the OS.

    root@v240-1 # /usr/sfw/bin/gtar --version
    tar (GNU tar) 1.17

     

     

    If you cannot find gtar for Solaris 9 on  http://sunfreeware.com/    see if you can find a Solaris 10 or Linux system where you can extract the NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS.tar.gz file.

    This is how I joined and extracted my Client files (still haven't had a chance to do the actual upgrade):

    # cat "NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS_tar-gz.1of2" "NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS_tar-gz.2of2" >  "NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS.tar.gz"

    # gzcat NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS.tar.gz |/usr/sfw/bin/gtar -xvf -

    # gzip -d tar-1.26-sol9-sparc-local.gz

     

    # pkgadd -d tar-1.26-sol9-sparc-local

    Sorry for using wrong approach. The correct thing to check the version of above installed tar

     

    # /usr/local/bin/tar --version
    tar (GNU tar) 1.26
