On the VC server, I found out that the DNS name as well as display name are not populated. However, vmwaretools are full installed and up to date.

  • This issue was resolved. I uninstall the vmwaretools completely and then re-install afresh. Then point the primary identifier to backup via hostname. The VMs backup has been successful since then. Thank you all.

Am marking this as solution. Please let me know if otherwise. Thank you

  • Hmm, I did an internal search for enginiering notes on this error and find nothing.

VMWare is kicking back The method is already disabled by 'com.vmware.vcDr  when creating a snap. What does the logging say from VMware's side in vcenter? Also what happens when you initate a snap from vcenter?

Searching VMWare on this sugested that rebooting the storage array controller(s) may help. If you find its a NetBackup issue, please open a case.

  • Hi,

Check this note out. You didn't say if the backup has worked before. According to the note "This issue occurs because the entries from the VPX_DISABLED_METHODS table are not removed after a virtual machine backup task completes. When a virtual machine level backup begins, the backup system informs vCenter Server to disable Storage vMotion for that virtual machine to ensure that the backups can complete successfully. If no backups are active for that virtual machine when this error occurs, Storage vMotion does not automatically re-enable."

So if your backup worked previously and then stopped, this could be relevant.
