oracle backup template is not running on "oracle enterprise linux" OEL client

Hi all,

i am having the following environment:
NBU 7.5.0.3 master server running on Solaris 10 X64 machine
NBU 7.5 client on OEL machine  running OEL 6.3
oracle DB is 11gr2

steps i followed to take the backup:
1- I installed the client from the UNIX_Client.tar file on the OEL client
2- shutdown the databse to execute the oracle-link script
3- ./oracle-link.sh was successfull
4- creating a template through the ./jbpSA through the client interface, i accessed the oracle instance with a user that has sysdba privileges.
5- create the policy and putting in the backup selection the template that i created before

whenever i run the policy, the job started and seems to be hang at the follwing prompt:
"waiting for chiled process",
i left that for more than 4 hours but nothing happened.
below is the output from the job details window:

any help please.

  • Please show us the policy config.

    On master server, run :
    bppllist <policy-name> -U

On client, create all of the following log folders under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs:

    bpcd dbclient bphdb

Change permissions on dbclient and bphdb to 777.

Please rename client logs to reflect process name (e.g. bpcd.txt) and post as File attachments.

  • Hi Marianne,

    thank you for your reply,
I have attached the files you requested, please note that nothing is in the /dbclient so I attached bpcd files and bphdb.

also below is the output of the bppllist:

  • actually I didnt find anything strange in the files unless the entry that "prefix" the template name in the JO details:
    3a44424e414d453a4d494d49523a4442484f4d453a2f7530332f6170702f6f7261636c652f70726f647563742f31312e322e302f64625f313a44424e45544e414d453a4d494d.
    what do you think?
is there anything that I couldnt take care about?

  • In all honesty - no idea why the actual backup on the client is not starting.

At this point I would ask assistance from Oracle dba to see what happens if rman is used from cmd on the client to start the backup.

The other option is to log a support call...

  • thank you Marianne,

do you think there is any difference in policy setup configuration when the oracle database is of ASM structure? isnt it the same as backing up the normal Oracle DB?

  • Schedule:              Full

     Daily Windows:

    (nothing)

Does your policy really have no window defined in the Full schedule?

  • thanks wr,
the whole problem was in the link between netbackup and the oracle DB,

the oracle-link script didnt create the symbolik link of the "libobk.so" file, when i created the link the backup went smoothly
    thanks all for your replies.

  • 11 May:

    3- ./oracle-link.sh was successfull

    Today:

the oracle-link script didnt create the symbolik link of the "libobk.so" file,

So then, there was no way we would know what the actual problem was....

If if rman was used from cmd on the client as per my suggestion on 13 May, it would become clear that the link was missing.

    Glad you got it sorted!

  • it was strange for me also the script showed clearly that the link has been created successfully also when i looked into the log file it generated, at the end of it, it was clear that the script has been done successfully, my fault was by not checking the presence of the library file as i "trusted" the output of the script.
thanks again for the help :)
