Oracle.exe not backedup

Environment - master is a 2008 sp2 running Netbackup Enterprise Manager 7.1.0.2

client server VMware virtual server 2008 sp2 64bit, with client 7.1.0.2

c:\ drive backup using vmware vcb

e,f,g san attached storage backup using windows RDM policy, so files are run as a flat file.

Server runs an oracle database 11g for a planning map server

on e:\oracle\ora11g\oracle.exe

e:\arcgis\arcsde\ora11gexe\giomgr.exe

these files do not get backed up.

does not show on the BAR console

Yet the policy completes little blue man.

created a separate policy backing up just the offending files.

this errors with a Status 90 media manager received no data for backup image.

Files are not in any exculsion list.

Backup normally runs with oracle services running, have run this policy with database in a downed state and services stopped.

Get same error.

Have seen other posts relating to oracle not backedup using Backupexec but these went un-resolved

Anybody experiencing these issues or possibly not aware!!

  • Do the following, as appropriate:

Check the All Log Entries report.

For detailed debug information, create bpdm or bptm debug log directories on

the server. If the client is Windows, also create a bpbkar debug log directory

on the client. Retry the operation and check the resulting debug logs.

For additional information, check the following:

NetBackup Problems report to determine the device or media that caused

    the error

System and error logs for the system (UNIX and Linux)

    Event Viewer Application log (Windows)

  • This is actually a function of VSS backup.  Windows places executables and dlls under Windows File Protection and VSS automatically excludes these files from a standard backup.  These protected files are backed up with a Shadow Copy/System State backup.  This is why you need both to fully protect a Windows system.

  • This has helped me understand why the files are not backup as they should

Is the tech document which links from the one Yasuhisa posted in showing how to exclude your drive from the vss.

how ever in trying this \\servername\e$ in the policy i get an error of status 13 file read.

i've given elevated permission to the netbackup client service on my client and it still fails

so from my pc i can start\run \\servername\e$, get login prompt, login with designated username and password thats on my netbackup client service on the client, and am able to modify files/folders

    any ideas, why this errors?

  • Excellent this worked.!!

the reg key to disable the NTIO fixed the problem of the permissions to the share.

    Many thanks
