Oracle Rman Restores complete but not complete....

Having some troubles doing Oracle Rman restores latley. I cant seem to pin down a pattern as either. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt

The DBA's will kick off the restore and I can watch its progress. Some of the pieces of the restore complete sucessfully while others end up with something like this....

08/08/2011 10:37:30 - begin reading
08/08/2011 10:37:31 - Info bpbrm (pid=2402) sending media manager msg: CONTINUE RESTORE
08/08/2011 10:46:27 - end reading; read time: 0:08:57
08/08/2011 10:46:27 - Info bpbrm (pid=2402) media manager for backup id gng2dbpd_1312805021 exited with status 0: the requested operation was successfully completed

It will sit at this stage forever seemingly. I have left it at this stage for several hours and nothing happens. Ties up the tape and drive it was using. The job stays active in the Activity Monitor until I go in and kill the job. The DBA's confirm that on their end nothing is happening. Rman is sitting there idle. No retries or anything.

I did find this article but not sure if it applies. My logs dont match as to what these are saying.

Any ideas?

We are running Netbackup 7.1 on our media and master servers. Agents are 6.5.6.
Solaris 10

Thanks in advance!

  • You need all of the following logs to determine what is happening:

    On master: bprd

On media server: bptm and bpbrm

From the information that you've posted, it could be a timeout, but it seems that NBU fails to report the timeout. Ensure that Client Read Timeout is at least 1800 (30 minutes) on the media server.

  • Maybe more log in the client  ../netbackup/log/dbclient  and VERBOSE = 5
