Oracle Storagetek SL150 drives show "Unused Element Address"

Hi All,

I'm setting up a new Netbackup Master server and when I try to configure the library and drives it is showing me two drives with "Unused Element Address". Note that the library only has one drive. In the library GUI the drive is showing as operational. In device manager I see two medium changer devices named "Oracle/StorageTek Library" and they are responding. I also updated the Netbackup drive mappings but that hasn't helped. Can someone suggest anything else to try?

Thanks
Nick

  • Can you see "tape device" and "Medium Changers" in your device tree?

  • I find it strange that you are setting up a new Netbackup Master server using EOSL NBU 7.6 software with a old STK SL150 tape library.

How is the robot connected to the backup server? SCSI or FC?
There should be only one medium changer.

The 'unused element' message is coming from the robot :

    Number of Drives : 2
    Number of Slots : 29
Number of Media Access Ports: 4
Drive 1 Serial Number : "XXXXXXX"
    Drive 2 Serial Number : ""

It seems that 1 drive was removed from the robot without reconfiguring it.

This is what management wants me to re-use. It's connected via mini SAS/SATA connection. I believe you can purchase this with one or two drives. This was working at a previous co-location using Oracle Backup without any issues. The only thing I can think of is there is some incompatability with the Dell H200E card. Everything is showing in device manager correctly though. I'll try to dig into why I am seeing two devices, although my other Dell T4000 library shows the same is has been running perfectly for 6+ years.

  • Could you show us screenshot from Libray Web-interface "Drivers" section and scroll it to the right to get speed information, and "Configuration" settings (Is partitioning is on)?
