Problem reading Media ID in new Dell TL4000

Yes, we can see the media id from the web interface and the panel on the front of the library. I put a tape in the library labelled NCN123. Netbackup is not recognizing it, so through netbackup i relabelled the tape to A00001 and it recognized it and used it in a backup job. Symantec support thinks it is the scanner, but If I see it on the interface I feel that it negates that theory.

I think is not the scaner because you are able to see the barcodes in the library GUI, that means was able to scan them, I think is communication issue between the Library and NBU because is not sending the correct data, or the server OS SCSI is unable to see or read the library matrix where the barcode's are, try reseting the HBA's on your server and run a full inventory of the library, then an inventory in netbackup, if the issue still goes on, then open a case for Dell because the library is not reporting the volsers matrix. Some libraries use the first drive FC path has the griper and I/O communication, maybe that drive or device is faling, this normaly happens on the IBM3584's but not sure how Dell do it.

Do you see the barcodes ?

Netbackup doesn't read barcodes.  It uses the daemon (probably tldcd) to communicate with the library and the library then tells Netbackup what the barcodes are.  Therefore, this is a separate "process" to looking at the barcodes on the library itself.   The fact you can see the barcodes does prove the scanner works, but doesn't mean Netback is at fault, although it may be.

This is what I would do ...

Firstly, update to the latest devices file.

I'd delete and readd the robot, make sure you delete the drives before the robot.

What does robtest show, if you see no barcodes, then you are more likely to have a library issue.

What does an inventory show, no need to update anything, just display contents

Post back here on  that lot and we'll go from there,

well we have tried everything that has been suggested and still no luck. We were on the phone with Dell today and Everything on there end seems fine. The web interface for the library see's the media id just fine. It's when we get into netbackup that we see

Netbackup knows that there is a tape there but doesnt recognize the media id. We are trying to get Dell and Symantec on the phone together tomorrow for a call. Any more ideas would be great. Thanks for all of your input.

Barcode rules??

Media ID generation rules?? 

i have tried moving tapes from each library. Same problem arises. I can see the media id fine on the library panel, and the web interface for the library. But not from Netbackup.
