purpose of nbhostdbcmd?

For maintenance reasons NetBackup had to be stopped on one of our master servers (RHEL 6.10, NetBackup 8.2). After the netbackup stop command we saw the following process running for a couple minutes:

NB Processes
------------
root 9383 1 0 09:58 ? 00:00:00 /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/nbhostdbcmd -update -force -daemon

Could anyone explain what this process is doing? Would it be safe to kill the process manually (we waited till it stopped by itself...)?. I cannot find any documentation about it anywhere.

  • nbhostdbcmd is a process that is used as part of Veritas's telemetry collection, most likely Smart Meter. I do not think terminating the process would cause any issues, as it is not a vital process.
