Query on replication

Hi Experts,

i have AIR configured i my setup between production and DR. Its happening through 50Mb/s wan line. As of now 80Gb of data is taking 12-14 hours to complete on daily replication. Now the real challenge is we are going to add few more servers in our production environment and it is approximately 800GB to 1 TB of data over all. Now the question is how do i replicate this big amount of data into my DR with my existing line.

Please let me know if any solution for this.

  • There is a official technote on seeding dedupe data to a remote MSDP over a WAN connection.

  • You cannot lift the law of physics :-)

Either you ask for more bandwidth - after all there is a business need, or you do not replicate all data.

Current replication take place at appx 1950KB/sec, but the 50Mbit should be able to carry 5MB/sec.

How the dedupde ratio you are seeing ?

  • Thanks for replying.

The problm is how the first full backup of new servers replicate. Is that possible using below method

Take the full backup to tape from production envirnmnt

Go to DR site and perform the import operation into the DR master setup

And then duplicate those images in the DR appliance

Then initiate the repliation from production to DR. Since DR appliance already have the full backup images, dedupe will take place and only the new updated data with transfer through wan.

Not sure whether it will work out.

comments please. And if any other alterdate option always welcome

  •

1st Phase : bkp on tape ---> move this to DR-->import-->>duplicate that -->> Possible
2nd Phase : replicate from tape to DR (Dedupe will take place) ---Not possible with tape Storage unit
