Question regarding AIR

Most people tend to just do the import on the second site but say disk space is at a premium they may want to put a copy on tape for long term retention

So you import at the target retention (it should be that usually rather than a fixed retention - in your case 1 month) and then write a copy to tape with a 7 year retention

Just acts as an extra copy on the DR site and generally would be to tape with a longer retention period

This will also save you from not running the replication again from SITE A to SITE B as you already have a copy 2 for the image.

Some customer only need one copy on the DR site. I think it's depend on your company bussniess need.

Is that possible that I can only import at secondary site and dont do duplication ? if yes, means I have the backup images at secondary site as well. if correct

then I am not able to add only import SLP, if I click ok with only import policy I see the below message

You cannot import on the target site and then duplicate that back to the original site (and there would be little point anyway)

If you need an extra copy at the remote site to do a duplication to another storage unit on the remote site (disk or tape)

If you need to replicate cross site (A to B and B to A) then you need two SLPs on each site:

Site A:

AtoBSLP (backup to A / replication to B)

BtoASLP (import from B / duplication locally if required)

Site B:

AtoBSLP (import from A / duplication locally if required)

BtoASLP (backup to B / relication to A)

I dont want to duplicate it back to source site.

If that is all you want to do then you need your SLP at the source site which as a backup plus a replication step (you must define the retention of the image at the remote site in this one) and then an SLP with exactly the same name at the remote site which just has an import step

I am trying to do the same but facing the below message.

You set the retention period on the SLP at the source

On the destination SLP the import must be set to have the remote retention period - it is an option in the drop down box - you cannot use anything else at the remote site

There is no Remote retention period. Below are three available.

- Fixed

- Expire after copy

- Target Retention

I selected Terget Retention and able to click on OK without any message.
