we are using an rman script for Oracle DB backups. We want to receive mail after every succesfully/failed backups.

If you have confirmed that sendmail (mailx) is working at OS level on Oracle clients, you can use 'Client sends mail' in Client's Universal Settings.
That is a really ancient script, mentions NetBackup versions 3.4 and 4.5. That is older than I am! 
First off I would recommend starting with the sample script for current version, 7.5 in your case. There should be comments in the new script about sending email notifications.
This is a common script, we will copy this script to all the DB servers. we will not make any changes on the script. We will create the DB policy name as SID name.Backup is running as per the schedule.
Only problem is with mail
