  • Extract from the NBU 7.5 Clients and Agents Datasheet:  http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-netbackup_7-5_DS_clients-agents_21219457-1.en-us.pdf

    Bare Metal Restore
Integrated and included at no extra charge, Bare Metal
Restore provides automated server recovery of physical or
virtual machines (P2P, P2V,V2P, or V2V), including the ability
to restore to a dissimilar server and/or dissimilar disk
configuration. This feature boasts a complete system recovery
time of approximately 15 minutes on Microsoft® Windows®,
    Linux®, and UNIX® platforms

  • Dissimilar server means different hardware. So, you can for example backup a Windows 2008 client on HP server and restore to a Dell server. Same OS version will be restored as this is what was backed up.
Dissimilar disk means a disk from a different manufacturer.

Please take your time and read through the BMR Admin Guide.
    See link in Nicolai's post.

  • @Marianne,

I gor confused in this statement Restoration of a dissimilar server and/or dissimilar disk configuratuion.

    Would you please elaborate?

  • BMR is part of NetBackup.

The Datasheet is for all NBU agents and options (including BMR).
