Replicating DSSU to another Media Server using disk

Ok here is my delima... I have 3 servers in my environment.

1. Master server 30tb disk. (1st stage)

2. Media server tape only. (2nd stage)

3. Media server 6tb disk. (3rd stage. located in my DR site)

I have 3 enterprise server license, but no advanced disk. What I'm wanting to do is backup to my master server and stage it to tape (server 2) and then stage to disk again (server 3).

Thoughts?

    Not possible with the basic DSSU feature. SLP and advanced disk/msdp is needed.

    Sorry for the bad news.

    my thoughts:

    • Over the network transfer of 30TB data will be a challenge.
    • if the master server is down in site 1, the media server in the DR site will be of no good.
    • Look into making the DR media server a master server (requre re-installation) and use AIR for transferring backup images from production site to DR (will require MSDP),

    MSDP (Dedupe License) will allow you to config SLPs to do optimized duplication (changed blocks only) between 2 media servers in same domain or between media servers in different domains (different masters) using AIR.

    Without Enterprise disk or Dedupe (Data Protection Optimization) license, you can do manual duplication using the GUI or bpduplicate from cmd or in a script.

    Network transfer shouldn't be and issue. I have fiber between the sites. I also have a master server ready for catalog restore in my DR site. Your 3rd point has crossed my mind, but that is a lot of network traffic to be pushing back and forth. Keep in mind I have tape at my primary site. I obviously don't know the best way to accomplish what I need. Our director wants to keep at least 90 days on disk and to use tape primarily as archival and not depend on them for restore. His plan is to purchase another media server with 30tb. In the case of a disaster, I want to be sure my newest backups are in DR. I'm not sure how best to accomplish what I'm looking for.

    Also, I have no idea what AIR is, but I will research.
