RESTORATION PROBLEM

Hi Forum,

My Setup : Master / Media - Sol. 10 + NBU 6.5.5

I m trying to restore a file from same / different server but getting following error message.

Error bptm cannot connect to bprd to obtain files to restore, Error 0

But there is no problem with backup.

NO CHANGES has been done on the setup...can someone suggest any sol/workaround for this issue.

RESTORE IS NOT AT ALL WORKING and it is failing with error code 25 (Cannot Connect on Socket)

Rgds.

  • Please confirm that you have specified the MASTER server name in the SERVER field when specifying:

    Server
    Source Client
    Destination Client

ALL restore requests need to be sent to the Master server where the image database resides.

If you need the restore to be sent to another media server (not the one that did the backup), you have to specify this with an entry in the master server's bp.conf:

    FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = from_host  to_host

  • Hi,

I have selected the correct MASTER server name in the server field while restoring....Even FORCE_RESTORE option is used with all available media server under the setup.

Now i have manually failed over my MASTER server to standby and from there i am able to perform same restoration successfully.

  • I am sure, Its a HOSTNAME resolution problem

Is your Master server in Cluster ?

you need to use FQDN in hosts file

  • If your master server is clustered, then there is either a problem with /etc/hosts or DNS or cluster config.

check output of these commands on the 'working' node:

    nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose
    bpclntcmd -self
    bpps -x

Then, failover to other node and run the same commands. Compare output.
Also compare bp.conf entries on both nodes.

  • Is you destination host able to resolve NBU cluster name ?

  • Can you check if you are able to telnet port 13720 bprd , also have you tried a restore from the Master Server.

  • Try to run this command:

    #svcadm enable inetd
    #inetconv -i /etc/inet/inetd.conf

I hope it can help you.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi All,

Master server is not clustered. We manually failover the master server over VIP every month. I will check all the required suggestions and will reverk back.

  • What it means ---- We manually failover the master server over VIP every month ???
