Restore a firewalled client

I have a setup where master and client doesn't communicate with each other and only master server & media server are in a n/w Firewall zone so they only communicate & resolve each other..Now my question is how the restore will take place  ?

Bp.conf has first entry as that of master servet..is this correct..will the restore work ?

  • The restore will work if you initiate the restore from the master server.

Restore request will be processed as follows:
Master server GUI -> bprd (master) -> bpbrm (media server) -> bpcd (client)
(A bit more to this, but essentially how comms are initiated)

Restore request from client will not work, as client will attempt to send restore request directly to bprd on master.

  • hi,

if you are looking for restore, i assume there must be a successfull backup images, that indicates you have a proper communication between the media server and client... .

media server and client communication is more than enough to go for restore...

and its alwasy good to have the ports(1556,13724) between the master and clients

  • 0k..then what is the difference between adding a client in Master Server ->Properties->Client attributes->Connect options   & adding a client in  Master Server->Firewall-->   ?? is it same  thing ?

  •

its time to read the netbackup 7.5 admin guide, it has detail info about those options..

Connect Options tab of the Client Attributes properties  -->reffer page no 94 in 7.5 admin guide 1 unix

The properties in the Connect Options tab describe how a NetBackup server
connects to NetBackup client tabs. The tab appears on the ClientAttributes dialog
    box.

Firewall properties  -->refer page no 137 in 7.5 admin guide 1 unix
The Firewall properties describe how the selected master and media servers are
    connected to by other hosts.
Servers are added to the host list of the Firewall properties. To configure port
usage for clients, see the Client Attributes properties.

    hope this helps.
  • Totally agree with Nagalla.
