restore failing with 85

When I do the restore using Host properties --> Master server --> General Server --> Media Host Override the restore is failing with error code 85, Media read error.

The is the error which I am getting.

02/10/2016 22:28:44 - Error bptm (pid=54076) cannot read image from media id E01011, drive index 2, err = 234
02/10/2016 22:28:52 - end Restore; elapsed time 0:13:55
02/10/2016 22:28:52 - Error bptm (pid=54076) The tape device at index 2 has a maximum block size of 524288 bytes, a buffer size of 1048576 cannot be used
02/10/2016 22:28:52 - Info bptm (pid=54076) EXITING with status 85 <----------

I tried using the same same bufffer size as a soure media server(Media server used for backup) but still its failing.

Any suggestion on this ?.

  • I am asking once again - please have a look my replies to your other post. In these cases the issue is normally with hba in your media server. With some you can update driver or registry setting, but in some cases you will need to replace hba. I have posted links in your other post where a utility is described to confirm max block size on this server.

  • have you tried changing the buffer to 262144 on the media server bring used?

Looks like its just complaining that the buffer is to large. Go smaller if you can, i have seen this usually its just getting the buffer small enough for the data to stream. Also sending all the buffer sizes and buffers in use might be helpful.

  • Same issue as your post over here : https://www.veritas.com/community/forums/restore-error-85-while-using-other-media-server Please have a look at my replies in that post.
  • again I have got the same errors.

  • I am asking once again - please have a look my replies to your other post. In these cases the issue is normally with hba in your media server. With some you can update driver or registry setting, but in some cases you will need to replace hba. I have posted links in your other post where a utility is described to confirm max block size on this server.
  • sorry Marianne, I did not relaize that my query was posted last time I was getting save error so I just opened one today. I will check on the HBAs now.
