Restoring Using a Different Media Server

Hello Everyone,

I would like some assistance on how to perform a restoration using only one server that acts as both the master and media server.

I currently have two master servers: one for PROD and one for DR. I plan to decommission the PROD master server along with all its connected media servers. I also plan to decommission the media servers connected to the DR master server and use the DR master as both the master and media server.

My main concern is the restoration process. How can I redirect restorations from the old media servers (used for old backups) to the new combined master/media server, and use it for restoring both old and new backups?

DR MASTER SERVER INFO:
NBU Version: 10.3.0.1
OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard

Thank you.

  • if you like to decommission your old environment , then you have no choice other than duplicating all images to new environment.
if decommissioning for that particular old media server which is holding all images is not that critical, you can add it to new master server which will be easier I suppose.

  • you will need to present the old media server to new master server, or duplicate all images from that old media server to new master server's media server.
in this way you will be able to decommission the old master/media server and get restoration from the new master as well.

Which method is better, less hassle, and quicker to complete?

  • Need to change the owner for existing backup images by pointing to the combined master/media via "bpimage" command then decomission the media servers.

You have not mentioned where the backup images are located. Those would be duplicated first if they are on the disk pool associated with any media server to be decommissioned.

The backup images are resided in both disk and tape drives.
