restoring Windows 2008r2 backup on Windows 2012

Hello,

I have Windows 2008R2 server where Netbackup 7.6.0.1 is running. There a backup is made of a VMware box using the VMware snapshot method, this VM is a Windows 2008R2 server.

Last weekend I configured a restore of around 400G on userdata to be restored on a Windows 2012 server. When the restore was finished we noticed that there where several directories which not had been restored. I scanned the logs for errors which there where not. I looked in the BAR to see if those directories where backed up and they are in my index, so in my opinion they are in the backup. I think this is a scarry thought, no errors and files are indexed.

Anybody seen this?

  • What the result of the restore, any files skipped? The BAR restore progress view usually shows file restored, files kept (not restored) etc.

What is the nature of the files not restored? System or User Data?

  • Ensure all of these log folders exist : On master : bprd On media server : bpbrm and bptm On destination client : tar Increase logging level to minimum of 3 on server(s) and client. Check restore log and above logs for hints/reason why specific files/folders are not restored.

    11:41:49 (2855.001) INF - TAR KEPT 0 EXISTING FILES
    11:41:49 (2855.001) INF - TAR PARTIALLY RESTORED 0 FILES

11:41:51 (2855.001) Status of restore from copy 1 of image created 25.09.2015 22:13:25 = the requested operation was successfully completed

11:41:51 (2855.xxx) INF - Status = the requested operation was successfully completed.

This the bottom of the logs in the BAR.
It is all userdata what needs to be restored.

I have enbled the logs and I will ask the windows admins if I can do the restore again. We are migrating and this morning I configured a restore of the directories we mis.

  • It looks like it is something in Windows. The data is restored the onlything is that our administrators don't see it by default. The first time they browse a directory they first need to take the permissions.

At first it looked scary, but I trust Netbackup.

    Thanks all.

Can I mark both your inputs as a solution?

  • Update, the windows administrator told me it has to do with the UAC, when one disables this in the control panel in Windows it is not enterily of. You need to disable it somehow with a registry setting.

Sometimes I am glad I know more about Unix then Windows :)
