Safest way to perform full virtual machine restore - Hyper-V

Hi Guys, I hope you can help me. If we perform a full virtual machine restore in a VMware environment, we have the option to restore a VM powered off. Is there such a thing in a Hyper-V environment?

I've been reading the documentation or following the restore wizard but there is no option. I plan to take backups and perform regular restores as tests

Any ideas??

  • There is no option to NOT power on the VMs after the restore, the documentation is referring to the staging option as a way to not power on the VM.

  • The option you selected will not create a VM; it will simply restore the files, allowing you to take further actions afterward, such as registering the VM or adding the disks to another VM.

The other two options will register the VM in Hyper-V. If I remember correctly, the VM will be in a powered-off state after restoration, as there is no option to start the VM automatically post-restore.

  • In the WebUI, I see this..

Allow overwrite of existing files checked and greyed out.

I don't need to overwrite anything, just restore a VM and used it as test.
