SCAN host

Hi Friends,

I have some querries regarding SCAN host.I have read the manuals and the above link.But i have some doubts.

  1. Scan host can change if it is down?
  2. Scan host and drive owner for Shared drive are same?
  3. Scan host is permanent for a drive throughout?
  4. Role of SCAN host?

    The scan host temporarily changes to hosts that request tape mounts while the mount is in progress. Scan host changes occur so only one host at a time has access to the drive path.

    this will answer your question. from the like that you posted..

     

    i am just querious... do you have any issue with scan host?

    why dont you leave this scan host management to EMM server?

    yes, EMM server automatically will chage this.

     

    2 Scan host and drive owner for Shared drive are same?

    if you mean device host, both are different.. 

     

    3 Scan host is permanent for a drive throughout?

     

    no, it can change... 

     

    4 Role of SCAN host?

    scans unassigned drives and update the status to EMM server.

    A scan host is assigned for a shared drive until some interruption occurs.

    For example, if one of the following occurs, EMM chooses a new scan host:

    • The socket connection, the host, the drive, the drive path, or the network goes down.

    • The drive is logically placed in the Down mode.

    The scan host temporarily changes to hosts that request tape mounts while the mount is in progress. Scan host changes occur so only one host at a time has access to the drive path.

    i belive that is not mandatory...

    Just last querry:

    When EMM changes the SCAN host,And after the backup completion,SCAN host remains the same?

    for Drive LN-DRV05

    scan host is LXMC74 and its allocated to LXMC75 for job.

    Drive LN-DRV03.

    both scan host and allocated to LXMC74

    Drive LN-DRV01

    is allocated to  LXMC78 and the scan host is LXMC72

    the allocations chage based on the Drive requests for jobs..

    and the scan host are to scan unassign drives.. .its selected by emm server based on avaliablity.
