Scratch pools

Hi

In one group we run out of scratch tapes.we insert the tapes for that group after that all tapes are moved into volumepool  -->scratch pool.I need to all 18 scratch tapes should moved to volume groups --> 000_00001_TLd gropup. what is the procedure to move all the 18 tapes  from scratch tapes to volume groups.

  • you are trying to mix 2 diffrent things..

scrach pool is one of the volume pools-- logical..

000_00001_TLd is the Volume Group.---> kind of physical

please google about volume pools and volume groups

Volume pool and Volume group both are diffrent ..

if you are all 18 scratch are belongs to same robot as the volume group 000_00001_TLd. you can move them...but you can find them in both scratch(untill it pick up by some job and move to regular volume pool) and in volume group 000_00001_TLd

  • There is no procedure, it should be automatic. The momet an invenory is run to update NetBackup that the tapes have been loaded into the libary, they will be automatically moved into the 000_0001_tld volume group. As Nagalla suggested, volume pools and groups are not the same thing. A volume pool is just a way of 'tagging' tapes with a label to group them for their intended use. NBU has some default volme pools, but you could create your own. The NONE vol pool is special and is used for cleaning tapes. Volume groups are kind of physical as Nagalla explained - they show the locaton of the tapes. The tld shows the robot type The 0001 is the robot number The 000 is the instance number of the density type, kinda difficult to explain, but if you only have one type of drives in the robot (eg hcart) it will be 000. If you added another density of drive to the robot, tapes that match that new density would be 001. It effectively groups the tapes to different density types, but does not show what the density is. So, if you have : 000_0001_tld 001_0001_tld 002_0001_tld 000_0002_tld 001_0002_tld I can tell you have two libraries, library 001 is a tld library and has x3 different density drives Library 002 is again tld, and has only two differet drives. Vol group --- is special, this is for tapes that are not in a library (for example they have been ejected). Martin
