Slow Performance NetBackup
Hi. We have a problem with performance
Netbackup version 7.7.2 Master server and 2 media servers on Windows Server 2008 R2.
We use Policy type: Vmware; credential with vCenter. Average backup speed by SAN is about ~100MB/s & by LAN is ~60MB/s.
We tried to tune & see next:
info bptm waited for full buffer ~ 20 000 times, delayed ~ 25 000 times
Info bpbkar32 bpbkar waited 2 times for empty buffer delayed 2 times
We tested the reading speed with install_path\Netbackup\bin\bpbkar32 -noncont X:\ 1>Nul 2>Nul, & see next results:
tar_base::backup_finish: TAR - backup: image data: 723003392 bytes 26 gigabytes
tar_base::backup_finish: TAR - backup: elapsed time: 294 secs 97415955 bps
In PerfMon we watched avg. Disk Bytes/Read = 209 768 Bytes
We tested the array with application Iometer:
1)Transfer request size = 209 768 Bytes
# of Outstanding I/Os = 1
& we got :
Total I/Os per Second ~ 657 I/O
Total Mbs per Second ~ 130 MB
Average I/O Response Time ~ 1.5 ms.
2)Transfer request size = 209 768 Bytes
# of Outstanding I/Os = 32
& we got :
Total I/Os per Second ~ 10 478 I/O
Total Mbs per Second ~ 2 097 MB
Average I/O Response Time ~ 3 ms.
3)Transfer request size = 1MB
# of Outstanding I/Os = 1
& we got :
Total I/Os per Second ~ 316 I/O
Total Mbs per Second ~ 316 MB
Average I/O Response Time ~ 3 ms.
4)Transfer request size = 1 MB
# of Outstanding I/Os = 32
& we got :
Total I/Os per Second ~ 2 168 I/O
Total Mbs per Second ~ 2 168 MB
Average I/O Response Time ~ 15 ms.
Thus figured, what send read request successively (in sequence). In this case throughput it depends on the response time.
Tried change read block size (Backup Planning and Performance Tuning Guide) – Raw partition read buffer size = 1024. But it did not help, perfmon shows avg.Disk Bytes/Read = 209 768Bytes.
Array EMC VMAX. Power Path installed. Required flags on the array are used. SAN – FcoE.
Use NetBAckup on the ReaHat 6.5. Throughput ~ 55MB/s. Avg read question size ~ 109KB.
Any ideas how to increase the speed?
