Snapshot could not be created with VMware method

Hi Guys,

I'm setting up backups for my VM Environment.

ESX 4.0

NBU 7.0

After I complete editing the policy I get the following error window:

  • Check the following:

    1. That the vm backup host is a Windows server

    2. That the vm in question is not a template

    3. That the vm in question has all of its VMDK's on the SAN luns and not on local disk

    4. That the vm has vmware tools installed and up to date

    Also run the bpplinfo command with -L switch rather than the -U and show us the output

    Thanks

  • I cannot read the snapshot arguments section - could you show us a screen shot of the snapshot section please

    OK some more thoughts:

    • VM is at Hardware version 7? No then suggest upgrade from 4 to 7
    • Create some logging directories on the vmware backup host and review these

    install_path\NetBackup\logs\bpVMutil {contains messages on Policy configuration and on restore}

    install_path\NetBackup\logs\nbproxy {{contains messages on Policy configuration}

    • Your backup host can discover the iSCSI target that the VMDK's are on, and access is at least Read.
    • The disks on this VM are VMDK's and NOT RDM's
  • Hi Guys,

    I still plan to apply the maintenacne packs as suggested however I have been abe to run my backups...

    I had to remove all the VM's from the policys then re added them (allowing NBU to discover them).

    This seems to have resolved the problem.  All the VM's have been rebooted recently due to a requirement to restart the Hosting SAN, this is the only possible casue of this problem I can think of.

    Thanks for your help.
