snapshot error encountered(156)

Hello,

Our environment Netbackup 7.6.0.4, Master and Mediaservers are on Windows 2008 R2. ESX 5.0.

For some time I notice that we have VMware snapshot backups which end with status: "4207: Could not fetch snapshot metadata or state files"  and "snapshot error encountered(156)". We know the solution to solve this. The VMware administrators need to consolidate the snapshots of the VM. Sometimes they need to restart services on their ESX server, sometimes the VM needs to be restarted to consolidate.

So far it is going good. But it is annoying, a lot of times it is hard to find downtime for the VM and then the backup keeps failing until the VMware team does their magic. I have looked at the VMwaretools and the VM-hardwarelevel, this is not an issue. Sometimes the tools are up to date and the VM runs on the latest hardwarelevel.

I attached one log of a job which fails with this error. I would like to know if I can prevent this from happening.

Thanks,

Rob

  • Hello Rob,

I don't know if this helps you.. But there is a tool from VMware called VMware OS Optimization Tool .. See if you can use it in your environment to help you with these issues

  • Hello thanks for your effort, but we don't have Horizon. All symptoms look simular though.
