SQL 2005 Compatibility

We are currently running NetBackup 7.7.3 and are planning to upgrade to 8.1.2.

We have 2 SQL 2005 servers that are being backed up by NetBackup 7.7.3 Agents. 

The compatibility notes in SORT state that SQL 2005 support ends after 7.7.3.

My question is, does this mean the Agent has to be 7.7.3, or the Server has to be 7.7.3. If we keep running 7.7.3 Agents on those two servers, will we be able to get SQL 2005 backed up using the 8.1.2 master/media server, or will we lose those backups entirely?

    Hello,

    first is correct. You can combine newer (here 8.1.x) NBU Master/Media servers with older (here 7.7.3) clients. That is the way how to generally backup "legacy" clients/agents with updated backup servers.
