SSO media servers on clustered configuration
Dear Experts,
I have some confusion regarding SSO. I need to accomplish following. Please suggest.
1. 7 clustered hosts(14 physical hosts). All are SQL databases with MSCS cluster. All connected over SAN. All need to be SSO media servers so that they can backup themselves. Best throughput is expected.
2. Clustered master server using SF 5.1 running 7.1.0.2. Windows 2008 r2 64 bit. Will not run the media management component.
3. A physical media server which also needs to share the library.
4. A physical library with 6 drives and one robot. One VTL with 7 drives and one robot which is going to be used as stagging library.
5. The plan is to have local backups from all clients(all are clustered as said) which will go to VTL first(so that it will be faster) and then one copy will be duplicated to physical tape library so that we have a local tape backup and one more copy to send offsite.
6. Please let me know how can this be accomplished. Also let me know the type and number of licenses which will be required. Also let me know the zoning required.
Best Regards,
A SAN Media Server is now classed as an Enterprise Client for licensing.
A cluster (active / passive) counts as one license
So you need 7 Enterprise Client Licenseses, 1 Media Server License, 1 Master Server License, 13 Shared Storage Option Licenses, 7 Database Application Packs - all tiered according to the number of processors.
Noze all nodes of the clustered servers and the Media Server to all drives / robotics
Best to use Storage Lifecycle Policies or Vault for the duplications (I would go for SLPs but that is just a preference - and is a no cost one when using tape to tape)
Hope this helps - obviously i am guessing that the Media Server backs up other things so you would need clients for those as well - but this should give you a starting point
