Status Code 59 - Access to the Client was not Allowed

I am receiving this error on a backup job.  This is Netbackup 7.1 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit system. I have looked through other forum discussions on this, but haven't had any luck trying to fix this myself.  Below are the job details and i have attached the BPCD log for futher assistance.

access to the client was not allowed(59)

  • The client is not allowing the media server access to bpcd, this is because the media server is not in the clients SERVER list.

5/23/2012 3:41:56 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=2552) bpcd on polaris.daykimball.org exited with status 59: access to the client was not allowed

If you are 100% sure the Media server is listed in the server list, then 2 possible issues:

    1) Hostname resolution is wrong on the client

    2) The outgoing connection on the Media server is on a different interface which resolves to a different hostname on the client.

In the NetBackup Console/Gui Double Click on Host Properties -> Clients -> polaris.daykimball.org -> Servers

    Is the media server listed?

I did check this out and only puck2 was listed.  I added puck2.daykimball.org to the list of servers and restarted the job from the Admin Console.  The job is now running.  Thank you for your quick response and quick fix.

  • RC, you are most welcome. The singular and fully qualified hostnames catch many people out.

    Glad to be of help.
