SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 High Availability Extensions and Media server

Hello,

I must install an NBU media server in 7.6.0.1 on a SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 with High Availability Extensions  so an active/passive cluster.

I check on compatibilty guide, but nothing regarding support of linux clustering...

Have you got an idea ?

I read on nbu documentation some steps to configure Media server on cluster windows.. have you got steps to configure on Linux cluster ?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

JC

  • If the compatibility guide does show SUSE 11 High Availability Extensions it means its not supported.

The configuration of the cluster is documented in Symantec NetBackup 7.6 in Highly Available Environments Administrator’s Guide

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6485

Update: DOH - too late. Now I am looking as a "mee too" poster :-)

  • Thanks for your reply :)

In fact i acheck the technote regarding Highly Available Environments

    and page 19 it's write :

SAN media servers are usually deployed on the servers that support large,
mission-critical applications, which are often clustered. While the application may
be clustered, you do not need to cluster the SAN media server itself. Instead, install
the SAN media server software on each member node of the cluster and create
application cluster definitions in the NetBackup EMM database for each virtual
name the cluster uses. Then create a storage unit using the virtual name of the
cluster as the media server. The associated application with a given virtual name
use the storage unit that is associated with the same virtual name for backups.

For your information it will be a SAN media server and note a media server but for me it's the same installation process !

So correct me if i make a mistake :)

    - Install of media server binary on each node (and sure that  hard drive are configured identically)

    - In the master server i setup the virtual node name (application) as SAN media server with the x hard drive

    Thanks in advance

  • Correct.

The process is further described on p. 23: About installing media servers in clusters

Tape storage unit is covered on p.26

    Disk storage unit on p.27.
