  • So it is hard to determine thier use exactly. I guess as below. * "Enterprise Server" is for master server. To use Enterprise Client, server license must be "Enterprise Sverver" * "Shared Storage Option" is for tape drives shared between multiple media servers. But, if I remember right, "library based tape drive support" license is also required for each drive in tape library. If you are to configure SSO with standalone drives(really?), no problem. * "Enterprise Client" is related with several features like VM backup, Snapshot Client, SAN media server. It seems that some or all of Enterprise Client is for SAN media server(because SSO is listed), but you have to confirm their use. You should ask the planner.

  • Thank you so much for you reply...It helped me to understand for what actually these licenses are...

If the Net backup is already connected to a library and doing backup to that library in a organisation..Then I think these license will be to backup any Application..ie. excahnge or Vmware through SAN...In my scenerio this will be used to backup Vmware enviroment..do we need any other license on the SAN media server other then the SSO and Enterprise client to back it up through Fiber channel or SAN..

From NBU 7.0 VM Admin Guide:

    NetBackup for VMware license requirement:
NetBackup for VMware requires the NetBackup Enterprise Client license.

    From NBU SAN Client Guide:

    About FT media servers
A NetBackup FT media server is a NetBackup media server on which the Fibre
Transport services are activated. NetBackup FT media servers accept connections
from SAN clients and send data to the disk storage.
The host bus adapters (HBAs) that accept connections from the SAN clients use
a special NetBackup target mode driver to process FT traffic.
The media server FT service controls data flow, processes SCSI commands, and
manages data buffers for the server side of the FT pipe. It also manages the target
mode driver for the host bus adaptors.
    Requires the SAN Client license.

    From Exchange Admin Guide:

The following snapshot options or Exchange configurations require a separate
    Snapshot Client license:
    ■ Instant recovery
    ■ Off-host backups
    ■ Backups using a hardware provider
    ■ A CCR environment

In the Add New Policy dialog box, in the Policy type list, select
    MS-Exchange-Server.
The database agent policy type does not appear in the drop-down list unless
your master server has a license key for the database agent.
  • I am also wondering about missing library based tape drive license - unless your tape drives are standalone?

For Exchange you will need "Database and Apllication pack" license.

The Enterprise Client license will allow you to config VMware and snapshot client backups. It also enables SAN Media server (this is where you install Media Server software on a client in order to backup itself).

  • library based tape drive license are already installed on the exsisiting master server which is Netbackup server not a net backup enterprise server ..the two licenses mentioned in my first post for Netbacup enterprise server is to upgrade the exsisting netbakup server software...so i think the enterprise client license would be to backup Vmware through SAN...can you breifely tell me the difference between the SAN media server and SAN client..If I want to backup ESX server through SAN what licenses do I have to need...
