  • NetBackup for NDMP: Per Tiered NDMP device.

    Extract from NBU licensing guide:

Licensing is per NDMP NAS (host) regardless of the configuration (local, 3-way, or Remote NDMP). For example, if a customer has 5 NDMP-enabled NAS devices that require backup or restore services from NetBackup, 5 NetBackup for NDMP licenses would be required.

A small number of tape libraries also implement NDMP (use of this capability was more common prior to NetBackup adding SSO support for NDMP in NetBackup 6.0) and these also require a NDMP license. NDMP licenses are also required when using NetBackup managed NAS snapshots. When NetBackup is used to manage NAS snapshots, the NDMP host on which the snapshots are taken requires the appropriately tiered NDMP license.

When NDMP is only used for duplication of backup images, such as with the VTL direct-to-tape or OST to tape, there is no need to purchase a NDMP license as that NDMP functionality is already enabled within NetBackup.

For a NAS array with two data movers to be backedup using NBU, NDMP tier-2 license is required..

  • Great, Thanks for posting back. Bookmarked.

But i have a doubt here.

    EMC Celerra NS-482    with 2  active blades   3          1

NS-482 means it will only have 2 Data Movers(Blades). And as far as i know Celerra works in Active-Standby mode only. Which means only one active blade.

Same is the case with NS-484: A total of 4 blades (Last number in the model indicates number of blades). Can be configured with 3 active 1 standby, 2 active 2 standby etc..

am really doubtful about being able to configure all the blades available in a celerra array as Active.

  • the information is from our purchase chain. the EMC nas may have fexiblity to do so. As i know, the NS series only comes with 2 nodes. But after i got this information, i did find the NS-482 and NS-484 by google.
