Tape Drives are Constantly become down

Dear Readers ,

I have two LTO5 Drives and two LTO6 Drives , Today one of LTO5 and one of  LTO6 Drives are becoming down on and on . I try to Make them up , but after some seconds they become down . would you please help me how to troubleshoot this issue .

In event Viewer I see these kind of logs and errors :

TLD(0) could not determine residence for barcode HTY563L5         and media access port is non-existent, leaving in drive 4

------

Media Manager error: invalid media type (9); host = l-bck

------

Operator/EMM server has DOWN'ed drive HP.ULTRIUM5-SCSI.002 (device 4)

-------

I would appreciate your help .

  • After Reading Logs n Event Viewer I realized that one tape in slot 77 was stucked , I moved that tape manually via HP Web managment .my issue is fixed now.

  • what is the netbackup version and os on the media server.? Are the drives shared.?

You would need to start with the system logs on the media server to identify why the drives are marked down..

I hope you are aware that nbu 7.6 is out of support..

Start with the event viewer logs on the media server.. you should see some messages reported when the drive is marked down.. Apart from that robots and bptm logs can also be referred.

Most probably there maybe a tape in the drive and the original slot from which it was picked may be currently full
